Celebrity Weight Loss Trend Leads To Worldwide Shortage Of Diabetes Drug

A diabetes treatment shortage has been announced following the uptick in usage of the drug after a new weight loss trend made viral by influencers, reports CBS.

A worldwide shortage for Ozempic, a FDA approved drug for Type Two Diabetes, as well as Wegovy, has been announced after in increase in prescriptions for both diabetic and non-diabetic users. Both drugs contain the ingredient, semaglutide, which is being linked to weight loss, the outlet continues. 

Influencers are bragging about their weight loss journeys, claiming that the drug helped them shed pounds. Recently, Wegovy has been FDA approved for chronic weight management in adults with obesity, while Ozempic is approved as a diabetes treatment.
